Philippe Lucas PhD(c) is Vice President, Patient Research & Access at Tilray, a federally authorized medical cannabis company based in Nanaimo, B.C., and a Graduate Researcher with the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research. His scientific research includes the use of cannabis in the treatment of mental health conditions and addiction.

Philippe has received a number of accolades and awards for his work, including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his work on medical cannabis, the University of Victoria Blue and Gold Award for academic excellence and community service, and the Vancouver Island Civil Liberties Association Leadership Award.

Abstract:

This presentation will provide a brief historical overview of medical cannabis in Canada, followed by an in depth examination of current patient demographics, patterns of use, and cannabis substitution effect. The talk will close with a look at the upcoming legalization of adult use and potential impacts on public health in Canada.
